UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) - Upper Darby police have asked for the public help in solving the recent murder of an 18-year-old man. Police think a fight outside a local convenience store may be connected to his shooting death.
Last Friday, Melvin Stewart, 18, was beaten up outside a Garrett Road 7-11. When police arrived on the scene he refused to cooperate with them.
Stewart recovered quickly but was shot and killed yesterday, according to police superintendent Mike Chitwood.
“Around 12 midnight, in the 200 block of Sansom Street, he was shot in the head.”
Stewart was dead on arrival at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Chitwood believes last Friday’s beating incident and the shooting may be connected.
He wants anyone with information to call police at 610-734-7686.
