Upper Darby Police Chief Urges Calm, Caution During Search For Child Stalker

By Brad Segall

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) — While the search continues for a man who allegedly exposed himself to children in Upper Darby Township, residents in that and nearby areas are stepping up crime watch activities to keep their neighborhoods safe.

Police — while saying there hasn’t been any attempted child luring since last Tuesday (see related story) — did meet over the weekend with dozens of Drexel Hill, Pa. residents about the investigation.

There is now an e-mail chain in place to keep people updated, and a web site has been established.

Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood felt it was important to talk to the residents about the recent incidents (another related story).

“The great line in law enforcement is, ‘crime is a community problem, and community members more often than not help us solve crimes.’”

There have been five incidents in Upper Darby Township since the middle of last month. Chitwood told the residents to be vigilant, but don’t panic. He doesn’t want them to be afraid to walk out of their homes or send their kids to school.
