UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) — Police in Upper Darby (Delaware County) are hoping to get some help from the public as they try to track down the vandals who slashed the tires on a half-dozen cars over the weekend.
Early Sunday morning, police found the tires slashed on six cars parked in the 100 and 200 blocks of Long Lane and the 100 block of Ashby Road.
Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says residents in the neighborhood told police they heard some noise outside, but didn’t see anything.
Chitwood calls this a “mean-spirited” crime.
“It looks like it probably was a bunch of drunks walking through the neighborhood,” he tells KYW Newsradio. “It’s in an area where we have problematic bars, so we think that’s what happened — and it’s just a copycat type of thing.”
Chitwood was referring to numerous incidents of tire slashings in several neighborhoods in Philadelphia over the past few weeks.
He says if they catch these guys, they should be subjected to the maximum penalty and fines.
