DREXEL HILL, Pa. (CBS) — Police say a man suspected of killing a woman in Drexel Hill and then abducting her children has taken his own life.
Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said 31-year-old Keith Belajonas was found dead in his car in New York in an apparent suicide.
The incident began when police say neighbors heard gunshots around 2:30 a.m. Thursday at a home on the 200 block of Abbey Terrace in Drexel Hill.
When police arrived, they found a woman, identified as 28-year-old Christina Belajonas, dead with a gunshot wound to her head and possible stab wounds.
Investigators say after shooting Christina Belajonas, Keith Belajonas abducted the woman’s children, ages four and five.
Belajonas made his way up to Staten Island, New York where investigators say he held up a family member who works at a CVS Pharmacy.
Police say he left the kids behind and fled the scene.
A short time later, investigators say Belajonas was spotted and police swarmed around his location.
Eventually police found Belajonas dead in his car of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Chitwood said neighbors heard Belajonas leaving with the kids in the stairwell after the shooting.
“One of the children was heard saying ‘is mommy dead?’ And out the door they go and allegedly get into a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder, dark grey.”
Police say blood was found on the sidewalk leading them to believe that Belajonas was injured during the scuffle. Chitwood alleges Belajonas posted on Facebook saying he had an argument with his wife about her cheating on him and that he won.
One neighbor tells CBS3 the family lived in the home for less than a year and just a few days ago they heard the couple arguing.
Police say Belajonas and his wife had been married for three years.
