UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) — Flyers have been distributed in areas of Upper Darby, warning the public of a homeless sexual predator who lists his address as a park frequented by children.
Upper Darby police superintendent Michael Chitwood says it makes no sense that the state allows a sexual predator, 30-year-old Steven Sherlock, to use Naylors Run Park, along Garrett Road in Upper Darby, as his address.
“I’m told by the state that this is acceptable by them under the ‘Megan’s Law’ statute, and to me it’s ludicrous and endangers the entire community,” Chitwood told KYW Newsradio this morning. “So we did the neighborhood notification, which is very all-encompassing. We had to notify all the daycare centers, all of the schools, all of the businesses and residences within 250 feet of the park.”
Chitwood says Sherlock has yet to be located in the park. He pleaded guilty to 2002 aggravated indecent assault of a 13-year-old girl at a Sharon Hill carnival.
