UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) — The sexually violent predator who told Pennsylvania state police he was living in a public park in Upper Darby (see previous story) is no longer there — a big relief for that community’s police department and its residents.

Upper Darby police superintendent Michael Chitwood says he found out yesterday that Steven Sherlock was now living about 45 miles away, in Boyertown, Berks County.

That word came from his parole officer, who told police the convicted sex offender had moved there earlier this month.

Sherlock had previously listed his address as Naylor’s Run Park, on Garrett Road.  Chitwood says the community is glad he’s gone.

“I mean, this guy should have never been able to use a park where kids play and recreate as his place of residence — that’s absolutely against every concept of why Megan’s Law was put into place,” Chitwood says.

Chitwood says he will now go to his local legislators to see if the law can be changed to require predators to register their address at a bricks-and-mortar location.

Sherlock assaulted a teenage girl while working at a carnival ten years ago.
